Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners are still probably just getting used to all the new goodies Samsung has packed into the recently-released phablet, but they'll be happy to know that a major update should be arriving within a couple months. If one leaked document is correct, Android 4.4 KitKat should release for the device in January 2014.

The information came to iTechAddict via a leaked Samsung India R&D document from an unidentified insider. Among the devices listed is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 model SM-N900. According to the document, this version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will receive Android 4.4 KitKat in January 2014. Carrier-tied models will most likely have to wait a little longer for the upgrade to arrive.

Bear in mind that there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical. For starters, Samsung has not officially commented on the matter, making it dubious at best. Along with being unable to confirm the validity of the document and its source, the document does clearly state "Expected Date," meaning it's still an estimate. iTechAddict notes that Samsung might be making an announcement regarding Android 4.4 KitKat plans in December.

The same document also states the Galaxy S4 will receive Android 4.4 in January as well, while the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 should get the update between March and April 2014.

Along with the usual new features found in Android 4.4 KitKat, iTechAddict also speculates that KitKat will bring the following improvements: smoother response, more stability, faster speeds, less RAM requirements and more multi-tasking features than ever. Once again, we'll have to wait for official details before we can confirm this.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 released in October in the United States with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the box.
