A dozen new shoe options are set to overwhelm sneaker collectors, as the Nike brand launches its oeuvre for Black History Month, including LeBron 12, Kyrie 1, KD7, Kobe 9 Elite, Air Jordan XX9 and Air Jordan 1 Retro.

"NIKE, Inc. celebrates Black History Month with a collection of products across basketball, football, running, soccer and skateboarding that honors six athletes and coaches who have positively impacted sport with their courage and determination," Nike.com explained, ready to offer its wide array of products to fans beginning Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. EST.

According to Sports Illustrated, the inspirations are: "Georgetown's John Thompson, Rutgers' C. Vivian Stringer, NFL great Jerry Rice, skateboarder Theotis Beasley, track star Brianna Rollins and Ghanian soccer player Kevin-Prince Boateng."

The Black History Month is observed in February to recognize the achievements of African Americans in history, despite being treated as second-class citizens back in the day.

Also known as the National African American History Month, it "is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in US history," said History.com.

On the 2015 collection, Nike's vice president and general manager of global basketball Michael Jackson said: "Sport is an incredible platform to inspire and encourage positive social change... Our 2015 Black History Month Collection honors and celebrates the athletes and leaders who have influenced global culture and have paved the way for our next generation," per Nike News.

Nike also selected a beneficiary, the Ever Higher Fund, which will receive a portion of its funds. According to Nike.com, the money will support the fund's thrust of introducing sports to underserved youth to hopefully uplift them.

"The fund's mission is to assist communities with knowledge, resources and tools for the next generation of leaders," the report said.

All the pairs are in black and white, and are set to release with different accessories and apparel like shirts, the Sports Illustrated report said.

There are 28 items all in all, said Nike News. Aside from the 12 shoes, there are 16 other items for men and women. All signature athletes participated, said Dime Mag.
