Rumors have been circulating around Jenna Coleman departing from BBC's "Doctor Who." Speculations, however, were put to a complete stop when the show's Christmas episode aired during the holiday.

A lot of fans thought that the actress would say farewell in the Christmas episode of the show. Apparently, this is part of the plan of Steven Moffat, writer of "Doctor Who". Coleman plays Clara Oswald in the show, opposite Peter Capaldi's Doctor. According to The Telegraph, Moffat "mischievously called the episode 'Last Christmas,' billing it in promotional material as: 'The Doctor and Clara face their last Christmas'."

It was confirmed that Coleman will stay on as the Doctor's companion when the end of the holiday episode featured Clara going on a new adventure with the alien Time Lord after being separated for quite a while, the news outlet noted.

The actress also spoke about staying on in "Doctor Who," saying that there are still more exciting journeys in store for her character and Capaldi's.

"It's wonderful to have a whole other series with the Doctor. For me, I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved. There's so much more to do, I think. They've finally reached a point where they understand each other," Coleman said, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Moffat revealed that he really intended to keep the end of "Last Christmas" a secret.

"There was a certain amount of to-ing and fro-ing. It occurred to us all that we don't start shooting until January, so for once we could keep the end of the Christmas episode a proper secret," Moffat said, as reported by The Telegraph.

Capaldi, on the other hand, only had good words about Coleman staying on in the show, BBC reported. The actress joined "Doctor Who" in 2012, when Matt Smith was still portraying the Doctor,

"I'm thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with," Capaldi said, as quoted by BBC.

"The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up," Coleman added, referring to the future of Clara on "Doctor Who," BBC added.

Some people, including industry insiders and avid fans, have been given the opportunity to watch the Christmas episode in a special screening. "Last Christmas" revolved around Clara and the Doctor "in a world of terrifying dreams, where they faced near-certain destruction from 'dream crab' monsters," according to The Telegraph. Nick Frost (Father Christmas) made a guest appearance in the episode.
