Spain will take on South Africa at the site where it lifted the World Cup over three years ago.

Spain is currently preparing to defend its title next summer and will be returning to the site where it conquered the world for the very first time.

A great deal of uncertainty has surrounded this team in recent months. Spain was destroyed 3-0 by Brazil in the final of the Confederations Cup and struggled to find its scoring touch in the qualifiers against such teams as Finland, Belarus and Georgia. The squad almost lost against Chile but wound up earning a 2-2 draw in that friendly. However, the team's most baffling result was a 2-1 win over lowly Equatorial Guinea this weekend. Spain dominated possession but struggled to find a way to break down the disciplined Guinea defense.

"It was an awkward match. They were physically strong and did not let us play with ease," said Coach Vicente del Bosque, according to ESPN. "We wanted to play but were inhibited. Guinea were aggressive and they put us a little on the back foot. They, with their attitude, not violence, did not let us play."

The game also featured an early injury to Xabi Alonso. The midfielder was making his first appearance for the club in months; he did not compete in the Confederations Cup and was seen by many as the missing piece in that tournament.

"It's nothing serious, just a knock... Xabi was brought off just as a precaution," said Del Bosque about the injury to the midfielder.

Start Time: Kickoff begins at 2 p.m. EST
